Pür’s Fully Charged Magnetic Mascara Review

We’ve seen all sorts of innovation in makeup. From cushion foundations all the way to liquid lipsticks. This one from Pür cosmetics, however, is a magnetic mascara. So yeah, hold the phone… what do you mean magnetic mascara??? No, no, you don’t just open the tube and the mascara will automatically stick to your lashes. Apparently, it’s the technology of the formula. Despite being in uni for almost four years now, I can’t seem to paraphrase what the website says about this formula because dayum gurl I’m not that scientific.

Opposites attract with this anti-aging mascara that has a “magnetic” polymer matrix that wraps a positively charged elastic veil around each lash to instantly lift, separate and define each lash for long-lasting performance.

Since it’s such a crazy concept, I thought I would give this mascara a go (well also because I saw Niomi Smart using this and it looked amazing) and filmed my first impressions on it, which is now on my YouTube channel. So if you haven’t watched that video, well, you should. Because this is meant to be an extension of that video haha.

In the video, you can see how impressed I was with the mascara. It made my lashes look feathery at first coat, but then after two coats, it gave me very voluminous and spidery lashes (which I love, mind you!), ones that are very similar to Charlotte Tilbury’s Legendary Lashes, without all the horrific smudging. However, after wearing it more regularly, I actually formed a different opinion on this mascara.

It actually smudges. Really easily.

Please excuse my face, but this is a result of a day-to-day application of the mascara.

You saw me applying the mascara on camera. But what you didn’t see was that I powdered a hell of a lot before I applied the mascara on my lashes. The mascara was sooo thick after two coats, and that got me scared so I powdered even more. Just a subconscious thing to do, you know? So day to day, I wouldn’t bother or have the time to put on my base that well. And whaddayknow… It does smudge! I mean it was nowhere near as bad as the Legendary Lashes, but it smudges quite easily. I don’t even bother putting it on my lower lashes anymore. And trust me when I say I’m a major lower lash kinda girl…

As you can see from the photo above, the mascara doesn’t look as prominent as it did on the video. Again, on a day-to-day basis, I wouldn’t have the time to stroke my lashes like a lonely cat lady strokes her cats, so that could be why.

So this actually gives me (and you) a lesson on first impressions: it’s just a first impression! You really gotta test out a product for a while in order to really understand the product and get a firm opinion on it. Well since this is a ‘magnetic’ mascara, I just thought it would be fun to film my first reactions to applying it.

In spite of all this, I still use it as my everyday mascara, and I am happy to have it in my collection, as you can build this up. Which makes it very versatile!

Maybelline The Falsies Push-Up Drama Mascara Review

I think it’s safe to say that the Maybelline Falsies is one of the most popular popular mascaras in the drugstore. Though I was not particularly impressed with the original formula, I was quite intrigued with this new one. Not gonna lie, solely because of its packaging. Before getting right on to the review, I would like to apologise for the state of my wild brows. I haven’t threaded them in months, and Blink Brow Bar is just too expensive now! #studentlife

Curled (L) and uncurled (R)

Let’s talk about the positives first. If you’re looking for a quick fix for your habits of always being late, then this mascara might be for you. After a dozen strokes, this mascara mostly gives you volume at the roots. I find that my lashes look very black when I’m done applying it. The cup-shaped bristles make it really easy for you to coat the lashes really quickly. But it doesn’t give you so much length. I always try to thicken up the ends of my lashes, but it just doesn’t really work. Usually, I also do this by applying the mascara from the top instead of just the bottom, but the formula is a bit too heavy for that. I feel like my lashes are gonna drop if I apply it that way.

Uncurled

To test out its name, which is ‘Push Up’, I tried curling only one of my eyes and leaving the other uncurled, to see if it can ‘push up’ my lashes. From the pictures above, it looks like the curled lashes doesn’t actually curl as well as the uncurled one. Might be worth noting though, that my eye is a little bit more hooded than the other, so that might be an illusion, or it might not. But it looks like you don’t have to curl your lashes for this mascara! At least people who have naturally curly lashes don’t, because I am that type of person that does not necessarily need to curl their lashes. Hehe..

I have to say that I do quite like the end result (just after I finish applying it). It makes my lashes look a bit spidery, which I love, without it actually being spidery. Does that even make sense? However, after a few hours of application, my already thin-ish ends of the lashes slowly disappear even more, and my bottom lashes are basically gone after about 6 hours. But all of this without it smudging underneath the eyes, which is probably a positive thing.

I am still not sure how I feel about this mascara. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad mascara, like what Wayne Goss said, but I don’t find myself reaching for this one very often. Most of my mascaras are already getting dry, but I find that I kept on going to my old ones instead of this fresh one.

Beautycon London ’15!

So a few days ago, my friend Chitra and I went to the first ever Beautycon in the UK! I don’t really know how to properly explain this event but it’s basically a beauty convention, just like the name. There are panels featuring a lot of YouTubers, stalls of beauty brands and you get to meet your favourite YouTubers in the meet & greet as well. It was sooo nice to finally meet the girls that had been a part of my daily routine for quite a while now. I usually see them behind my computer screen but being able to physically hug them and talk to them (even for a bit) felt quite unreal! I didn’t talk to them as much as I wanted to because I was being a chicken, as usual, but you know, at least I got to meet them and share the luv!

The first thing that was happening in the event was the meet & greet with Estee Lalonde, I was so excited to meet her but we were a bit late (of course). When we came in there was already a huuuge queue for her meet & greet. We waited for a good half an hour or probably even more. I was guessing a lot of people chatted with her for quite a long time by the time we queued up, and halfway through queueing the line went a bit faster, probably because time is running out. Enough with the chitter chatter, it was slowly my turn and I was hella nervous because I didn’t know what to talk about with her with such a short amount of time. I walked up to her and we said hi and hugged, Estee immediately said, “oh my god your outfit is on point!” and my whole day was honestly made. It’s only been an hour! We took a picture and she complimented my outfit yet again! I was kinda freaking out so I was like “oh my god thank you so much omg” and she was probably freaked out but ya know! We didn’t get to chat because she said there’s only 10 minutes left and the queue is literally still sooo long. So we parted our ways with Estee.

We then walked around and watched a few panels, browsed around, getting some free goodies from the stands (got a free mini Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish and a free NYX product!) and seeing a few smaller YouTubers walking by. I really regret not talking to them. Beautycon is also about meeting people who share the same interests as you and I kinda just wasted that part of it. I’ve learned my lesson though and will not do that again in the next one!

Chitra and I then queued up to meet Amelia Liana and Claire Marshall (heyclaire). Although I looove Amelia, I’ve met her before so I was ecstatic to finally meet Claire! The queue wasn’t as long as Estee’s because we were quite quick in the queue. It was our turn and Amelia looked a bit happy but puzzled at the same time as she greets us. She then said to me, “have we met before…?” and yes Amelia, we have!!! I was so surprised that she remembered me, I did not expect that at all. After hugging Claire, she also complimented my outfit. So my outfit that day is officially an EssieButton-and-Claire-Marshall-approved outfit! After taking a picture, that was kinda it. I was so nervous I literally couldn’t form words properly and kinda just said goodbye a short while after that. WHY DID I DO THAT?!?!

After that we saw a couple of panels, one of which was by Sarocha, a smaller vlogger, talking about how to set up your own channel and all of that good stuff. So in conclusion… I went to Beautycon just to meet my favourite people lol it was still good fun though! Just wish I maximised my time and opportunity there a lot more.
